Barbie Mariposa

May 9th, 2012

Oops… I did it again. I went back to my favorite thrift store and I start buying barbie dolls to do makeovers, and I am must say that I love it.

There was less variety than usual. I think people is turning into Barbie dolls again, as I saw more buyers taking my dolls away… more competence is coming along. But in the end I was able to buy a few dolls.

The first doll I purchased is Barbie Mariposa. This is a beautiful doll, with great eyes and nice hair. It found the body is quite different that the regular Barbie dolls. She has a smaller frame, more like the size of the Barbie muse, and of course the legs are longer and the shape of the feet is changed completely, being more extended than the regular Barbie dolls that use high-heels. In the picture you can see the detailed of her face which is beautiful, like others in the series Fairytopia. Badly the doll does not have wings, however I will try to get them soon from ebay, or I can become creative and design something from my own ;) .  Either way, she will look fantastic as she does now.

I have to say that I paid $1.00 for her, and she was worth every penny of that dollar. Well I hope you find the dolls you always wanted and enjoy the savings of buying from thrift stores as well from ebay.

I will be writing more about other dolls. And I hope this post at least helps people to identify dolls as the pictures shown the face and small details.

Paper Dolls

April 1st, 2012

Here I found great paper dolls for you all print them and play with them. They are from the 80s but have funky designs. However you can always draw new outfits and colour them, as I used to do it when I was younger.  So the fun used to last longer.

Here they are

We are back!

April 1st, 2012

After a few months down, Barbie-Pictures has come back to post more barbie pictures, from my new acquisitions.

I must say that for a long time I was extremely disconnected form the cyberspace, but I still continue looking for good findings here and there. However what I am really looking for is for one doll that has been difficult for me to find. I am talking about Megara doll from Disney Hercules movie, released back in 1998. I do not remember seeing it when the movie was released, but one day I went to my favorite thrift store and I saw her. However I did not buy it and now I desperately want her.

I will be looking for it, and once I get her, I will post her photoshoot, as I notice some people really like my photos and even they are using them in their websites.

I hope you find my images good and please feel free to use them, just link to my website.

Well, I will be working in more dolls, fix them and make them look like new.

XOXO

Trevor Donovan’s Ken

August 26th, 2011

I am enthusiastic about the project of a new Barbie Movie, that is being tentative for Mattel. I just wonder the angle that this movie would be focused as there is a great story behind Barbie and Ken, as they have been together the last 50 years, and increasing their social circle as well.

The new in live-Action Barbie movie has aimed the actor Trevor Donovan to play the always lovely- and Handsome Ken in a new Romantic Comedy about Barbie Roberts with actors!!!. It is also worth to mention that Trevor Donovan is mainly known by his work at 90210′s show.

However, without a doubt this movie can be expected to have tons of pink, glitter, and a really hot Ken with great fashion. Definitely, I will be watching it and I hope you too!! ;)

Mulan Doll

June 23rd, 2011

Mulan is the Disney film from 1998, about the story of a young girl who takes her dad’s place in the Chinese Army to protect him as he is aged and sick, impersonating a man during the Hun Army Invasion to China. From there, I must say that Mulan, clearly represents the great values and power of a woman in an oppressive society, who can do anything to protect her love ones, in this case his father without even thinking the consequences of the acts of her heart.

Also I must say this is one of my favorite Disney movies as the characters in it are way too funny like Mushu and Mulan’s friends. And that is the reason why I decided to get a Mulan Doll and take a few shoots of her. I have the Warrior Version of the Mulan Dolls, and I really like her because her clean face with just a bit of Makeup, which makes her face look clean and like Ping, the warrior boy. I hope you like my images. Thank you!.

Barbie Pictures

June 23rd, 2011

I decided to post my very favorite images of Barbie Dolls that I have been collecting since I starting photo shooting some of my Barbie Dolls.

The techniques are different, some sepias, other filtered and also I had used the Black and white background. In my personal Opinion, I know that there is others that have the same pleasure photographing Barbie Dolls, as previously we did not have the right images that we wanted to see, and I’m mean that even Matter never took time to make the Barbie Dolls look as gorgeous as some amateurs can make look a doll. Now things are different and even Matter has improved their Marketing techniques to sell us better images.

Anyway, I will leave my pictures to your consideration. Thank you!

How to Fix Barbie’s frizzy hair

June 21st, 2011

Many of us have had or still has a Barbie with an ugly and matted hair, caused by different reasons, either for over brushing the hair, over playing and other reasons.Fortunately, there is an easy way to fix Barbie’s hair, and make it soft and shiny again as it was brand new.

What you will need is:

Pot with boiling water

- A Barbie with Matted hair.
- A Barbie Brush or a Comb with small and narrow teeth.
- Shampoo and Conditioner.
- A pot with boiling water.
- A towel.

The procedure is very easy to do. The first step consists in detangling the Barbie’s hair very carefully and with patience, trying to make the hair “easier to comb” and eliminating as many knots as possible.

Once the hair is easier to manage and comb, we are going to wash the hair using the shampoo, trying to remove all the dirt acummulated in the hair. Rinse and after apply the conditioner. Leave it for about 3 minutes to get absorbed, then rinse it.

Submerge Barbie's hair

Once the Barbie’s hair is clean and soft, the next step get ready the boiling water on the pot and very carefully, (and if you are under age, ask for help to an adult) hold the Barbie’s Body with one hand and sumerge the Barbie’s hair into the boiling water and while you are doing this, comb the Barbie’s hair straight, keep sumerging the doll’s head into the water and keep combing the hair until the hair is very soft and the comb moves smoothly through the Doll’s hair. Also you can submerge the hair and right away take it out and comb the hair. Repeat this step until you see the Barbie’s hair soft and free of knots and it is easy to comb.

Barbie Fixed hair

Once the Barbie’s hair is smooth , take the Barbie, and leave her on a towel until the hair dries. It may take 7 hours. It is important to leave the Barbie’s hair drying naturally, so better results can be achieved. After, your Barbie’s hair will be as a new one and straight.

This is a good technique that works in every Barbie Doll. I use it very often as I buy second hand Barbie Dolls and most of the times they have damaged hair. Just be careful manipulating the hot water to avoid skin burns and also to prevent your doll to get burn with the pot. So extra attention, and once again, if you are underage ask your mommy to do it for you.

I hope this works for you.

Midge Barbie

April 6th, 2011

Midge Hadley is Barbie’s first friend, released back in 1963. But the sale of Midge stopped after the 60s, but she was again marketed in 1988.

She usually has red hair and freckels and her eyes usually are green.

It had a bit of criticism, when mattel produced a version of Midge as a married woman, being so young and also selling the pregnant version of Midge which started a lot od controversy until today.

Midge has 3 kids, named Ryan, Nikki and Cassandra, the newborn.

However, the version of this doll is the Midge from the Series of Summer Top Model Barbie, having a red hair and green hair, as well cute face and top model Body but without the original outfit which was composed by a printed white baby doll and black miniskirt and long greenish stockings, in my opinion, a bad outfit for such a pretty doll.

Kira Barbie

April 6th, 2011

Kira is the oldest Barbie’s Asian friend. She has been known in Europe also with the name of Marina. This doll was introduced in 1990 as one of the multicultural Barbie circle of friends. But in 1988, there was a similar doll called Nikki from the Animal Lovin’ version and she is another/same first asian friend of Barbie, which looked very similar to Kira. As well it is important to say that the names of this doll have been changed, depending of each version and year.

However, the Kira Barbie was rescue from a Thrift Store in excellent conditions. And the proof is the pictures taken and posted on top.

Tropical Barbie

March 18th, 2011

I still remember the smell of the Barbie doll just taken from the Box. Back then, it was my favorite moment, as it used to happen every year around the Christmas Season. Santa Claus never delivered any present for me, instead my mom would take me to the Toy Store and let me choose one of all the Barbie, under a reasonable price.

I still remember the emotion of opening the box of the Barbie that would stay with me the next 365 days as my favorite doll. becoming the princess while the other would become the princesess or the maids, which were just 2 or 3 other Barbie Dolls.

Personally I never saw a Barbie Doll like a project of life or an example to follow. For me she was the new toy that will help me to develop my skills for fashion design, drawing and sewing.

She had became my model, an object that I would control, never letting her to control me. I had always clear that. I always saw her body as ackward, never as the “dream to be” and I believe the reason how I always considered the doll just as a doll, a fantasy.

As well, I never felt like men would like a Barbie Body, instead I had my brother breaking my dolls, which made me believe men do not like Barbie dolls, so it was not a good thing become a Barbie Doll, that cannot defend herself against harm.

Tropical Barbie

For me she was just an object, a beautiful object that I will get just once a year. I still remember the first Barbie doll I had the chance to choose. It was the Tropical Barbie which was tanned, with a long blonde hair that will allow me to brush it all day until became matted and ugly. This doll is was made in 1986. But still, my first doll, the one that I had chose.

That is my experience about Barbie and its influence in my life. Today I still collect Barbie Dolls, as other people would collect stamps or spoons, but for me, it reminds me how much I wanted to have more dolls and being a kid with not possibilities to get more dolls, stayed in my mind, and now that I can, I collect them.
